Day 10. December Daily

10/12/2014

Today I used a different page protector - one specific to Instagram photos. Two 4x4 and four 2x2. As I've mentioned before, I love those little 2x2 pockets to put little bits into. Here is my day 10 -

Front page.

Picture

Date card - Vellum and white chevron transparency with teal numbers. All my teal numbers I have used glossy accents on top. Popped these on top of some gold washi tape and gold glitter card circle. This all sits on a 4x4 piece of vellum with teal trees embossed along the bottom (one of Michelle's creations in the kit from the Stamp Spot).

Picture

The little 2x2 pockets I filled with 1) a small glassine envelope with sequins and wood veneers. 2) a digital 'Jolly' printed (Ali Edwards) 3) white chevron transparency 4) journalling.

It was stinking hot and humid here today. Axel was obviously feeling the heat too and was sitting in the blow up pool just waiting for the water !

Picture

Back page.

Playing with our new selfie stick !! We do have a teenage son - but as anyone who has had teenagers knows, he is reluctant to get into the photos. I will however manage to snap a couple before this album is finished !!

Picture

The 2x2 pockets - 1) the glassine envelope 2) a digital 'season' coloured and printed and added glossy accents to 3) stamped 'December' on vellum 4) journalling.

The back of the date card I just added some gold washi and a red 'made over' flair with the 'cheer' sticker from Feckled Fawn on top. I've made over a few of my older flairs by embossing them in Zing.

Picture

A vellum piece stamped and embossed with one of Ali Edwards older Christmas stamps (from TSS kit). I added some red Zing to the heart.

Day 8. December Daily.

Today's page I added an insert - from Simple Stories Instagram page protector 6x8 with twelve 2x2 pockets. I really love this style to add lots of bits to the pockets.

Picture

My favourite square is this one. A teal 'zinged' flair button on a gold circle on top of white chevron transparency. On the flair I popped a little circle sticker from Freckled Fawn. Star washi tape and it's complete.

Picture

How it sits in my album with day 7.

Picture

My day 8. Everyday life around here with a teenage son.

We often get texts from our son from his bedroom asking for one of us to come there or more frequently to get him something to eat. We don't live in a huge house and when I got this text it cracked me up laughing. He has a great sense of humour. And yes he did get his own ice cream.

Picture

The date card is a sequin pocket made by Michelle and came in the kit from the Stamp Spot. Added the teal 8 with glossy accents on top and the day stamp from Ali Edwards.

Picture

Because today's story is about my son I embossed a cardboard letter J in gold Zing and added to the teal transparency.

Day 7. December Daily

Quiet Sunday here. And a quick page in my December Daily album. I have noticed in the last week or two these amazing trees with their red/orange foliage. Just beautiful.

They are what are commonly called Flame Trees and are amazingly striking in their foliage (One of my favourite Cold Chisel songs is Flame Trees!). I snapped this whilst driving home from shopping (and I did pull over to the side of the road first !!).

It really is amazing when you do stop and look around, what amazing things you see. I know I have changed in what I take photos of now is way different to what I used to take years ago. Project Life and projects like this have encouraged me to look for photos alongside the usual photos I take.

Now for my day 7.

The date card is a simple one - Teresa Collins card, a Freckled Fawn number with some red glitter cardstock and the day stamp from Ali Edwards.

Picture

This filler card was just perfect for this day and how amazing things are when you stop and look.

Picture

A 'lovely' wood veneer from Freckled Fawn adhered to the photo.

Picture

How it is together and in my album.

Day 5. December Daily.

Today was pretty quiet in this household. I had worked night duty so slept for about 5 hours. My son (I was told !) played a few games on his Xbox and then went for a walk in the afternoon with his dad and the dog. Axel (the dog) is a 14 month old blue staffy. He was our Christmas present to all of us last Christmas.

This was Axel last Christmas as a puppy.

Picture

He has gotten over his puppy love of chewing shoes, cardboard, balls, rocks ... well just about anything that was around. He now (thanks to hubby) has numerous handmade rope balls with extra rope lengths that he plays with and chews and pulls to bits. These last so much longer than store bought dog chew toys. Simon makes them out of boat rope (the toys are made in the design of what's called Monkey Fists - ball at one end of a length of rope).

Axel LOVES playing with these.

Picture

He has had one for a few months which is looking a bit worse for wear so Simon decided to make him a new one. This one is made of thicker rope so will probably last longer than the last one.

Picture
Picture

There is nothing better to Axel to grab his rope and run up and down the backyard, swinging the rope from side to side - often with the ball whacking him in he side of his head as he goes. Crazy dog hey !!

Running up the backyard!!

Picture

And down again !! Too quick for me to capture on my phone.

Picture

He often grabs the rope and presents it to us if we are outside, for a tug of war. These always end with him winning. There is no way he is going to loosen his grip on that rope.

Anyone for a tug of war ?

Picture

He really is a beautiful dog. Such unconditional love he shows. He just loves when we are outside - he obviously thinks it's playtime and tug of war time !! But he's just as happy to run around and whack himself in the head !!

Picture

Here are my pages as they appear in my album. I added a larger photo of Axel. At the moment I just added holes to the photo and popped in the album. I will pop it into a flip flap (when I can find it !!)

Picture

The two pages with the larger photo turned.

Picture

The left side. The date card from the kit from te Stamp Spot with a Sn@p DOG collection card in the pocket. The other side of the transparency I used from Day 4. The 6x4 journal card is from the Sn@p DOG collection also.

Picture

The right side.

Picture

The right side without the larger photo on top. I will be adding extras to this page - but I have now got to have some sleep (night duty last night and really should have been asleep 4 hours ago !!)

Picture
Picture

Close up of the date card. This was made with the kit from the Stamp Spot. I added a Sn@p 'Dog collection' card that I had trimmed.

Close up of the journalling card.

Picture

Sorry for the puppy dog overload !! He is a special member of our family.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look.

Day 3. December Daily

4/12/2014

Today was my sons' last day of school or the year. He has summer holidays until January 27. His plans include, but are not limited to, Xbox Xbox and more Xbox !! Got to love being a teenage boy. He has a mate coming over for the day tomorrow (most likely to join in playing Xbox !!).

I managed to get a photo (a miracle in itself!) of him after school - I think he obliged because of his excitement of not having to go to school for the next 7 weeks !!

Here is the left side of today. All cards are from the Stamp Spot kits. I added a wood veneer 'happy' from Freckled Fawn and some cord arrows from Studio Calico to the left card. The day card has the teal alphas from TSS adhered and Glossy Accents on top. The flair button is handmade by Michelle at TSS.

The cork frame is from Freckled Fawn Xmas kit and the stamp 'school's out' is from Kellie Stamps.

Picture

Today was a very sad day for many Australians. Phillip Hughes, a 25 year old from Macksville in NSW, was fatally injured playing in a Sheffield Shield match on November 25th. He had represented Australia in numerous Test matches and was an amazing opening batsman. This tragedy resonated throughout all of Australia and the world. Many took to social media with hashtags #63notout (he was batting and was on 63 runs when he was hit in the head by a bouncer) and #putoutyourbats - a symbolic gesture by Australians placing their own cricket bats and caps outside their front doors. To say it has rocked Australia is an understatement. Cricket is as Australian as you get. I think every home in Australia has a cricket bat and ball in it. Childhood memories of beach cricket, backyard cricket, street cricket and on Christmas Day after lunch are probably ones that many many Australians have. Phil Hughes epitomised the Australia way. Work hard. Follow your dreams. Smile and make people laugh. The boy from the country becoming a National and international sporting star. He could have been your son, brother, nephew, cousin or friend and I think that is why this whole thing touched so many people.

So I thought I would just put a simple photo of Hughesy on a teal transparency and attach #63notout in black thickers (Amy Tangerine).

Here are the 2 pages together. As they appear in my album.

Today was bittersweet in terms of my DD layout. I wasn't going to include the farewell of Phillip Hughes but after watching the televised funeral, I felt completely drained and sad. Complete opposite to the happiness Jacob felt today.

Day 4. December Daily

First day of summer holidays here for the boy. He has a mate over for the day and gaming is on the agenda.

This page is pretty simple. A 6x4 pic of my son and his friend in his room (the cave as it's commonly referred to!!).

The date card is from the Stamp Spot kit with some extra washi tape and some wood veneer stars. The number 4 is a Freckled Fawn wood veneer embossed with teal Zing.

The other card is a simple one. A Studio Calico transparency with a Freckled Fawn wood veneer coloured with red sharpie.

Day 1. December Daily

3/12/2014

December 1 is the beginning of Summer here in Australia. I love December weather for its warm days and that the humidity not as bad as in the latter weeks of summer.

Today hubby and I started a big clean up of things we need to sell. It's amazing what you find when you clean up. I found Jack the Pirate Elf (a pirate beanie bear that travelled with us when we were sailing). He became an Elf one December and got up to similar mischief that the Elf on the Shelf Elves get up too. I thought it might be fun to bring him out again this year.
A recap of my cover page front and back. I used goodies from my stash, some from The Stamp Spot Documenting December kits, WRMK Teresa Collins Instagram kit, transparencies from Studio Calico and Hambley Screen Prints, wood veneers from Studio Calico and Freckled Fawn.

Picture

Cover page under the 'hello' sequin pocket. The 3x4 sequin pocket was made by Michelle from the Stamp Spot. I added a 'hello' from Freckled Fawn which I coloured with a red Sharpie and added Glossy Accents to. The alpha stickers are from Teresa Collins Tinsel and Co.

Picture
Back of the cover page. Some digital elements from Ali Edwards plus transparencies from Hambley Screen Prints, cork stickers from Studio Calico.

Picture

Here is my Day 1 for December Daily.

I managed to get a photo of the 3 of us - a fairly rare occurrence these days !! The tree is from the Very Merry Christmas kit from Freckled Fawn. It is made from cork - I heat embossed it with Gold Zing and backed it with some teal glitter cardstock to show through in the stars.

Secret Santa for Jacob's class all wrapped and delivered.
Jack is back !! As mentioned above, Jack the Pirate Elf made an appearance a few years back. As my son is 14 he is probably a little old for the Elf on the Shelf tradition which I found out about only a few years ago. Jack was one of his toys from his early days and was a bit of a mascot for us when we were living on the yacht and sailing (we lived on a yacht for 10 plus years until 18 months ago). I'm actually looking forward to seeing what mischief Jack gets up to this year!!

Day 2. December Daily.

3/12/2014

Today started off like many days of December will, with me being at work on night duty. Working in the Special Care nursery for sick and premature babies. I cared for a little baby who was struggling since being born earlier in the day. It really does make me so much more appreciative and thankful that my own son, nieces and nephews and friends' babies were all robust and healthy when they were born. Anyone that knows me, knows I have a love for baby feet and toes - so darn cute those 5 little toes on each pudgy little foot !! I'm often taking photos of random baby feet !!

Picture

This quote from Ali is great.

Picture

More cleaning and sorting today by hubby whilst I had a sleep. He cooked dinner and tried a new sauce recipe from Pete Evans cookbook. A new spin on pesto with tarragon. It asked for anchovies which he left out. Bit of a massive fail !! To say it was akin to paint stripper is pretty close !! Maybe it needed the anchovies after all !!

After dinner we all went for a walk around here and saw some of the house Christmas decorations. So lovely to see. My favourite tonight was an inflatable Kombi van with Santa - so Australian.

Picture
Picture

I printed out this quote on my Picturemate 4x6 size and adhered to an overlay from Studio Calico. Simple. I love this quote.

Here is my Day 2 as it is in my album. I have tried to keep it simple and tell one story from the day. Photos I've taken today may appear later in the month though. It's all December memories after all.

With the day card (I think it is from Teresa Collins WRMK collection) I added a Freckled Fawn wood veneer number backed with red glitter card. Stamped the day (Ali Edwards stamp) with black Stazon. The journal card is one from Studio Calico Project Life kit.

The 4x6 card is made from the kits from the Stamp Spot. Those cute little toes !!

Here is how it looks in the album.

Documenting December part 2. Foundation pages.

26/11/2014

Hi again.

I have been working on my Documenting December (DD) album over the last few weeks and trying to get most, if not all of my foundation pages together. This way, when December comes I will just need to take and print photos and pop them in.

As I mentioned previously I have been lucky to be working with Michelle from The Stamp Spot as one of her design team for this project. For those who are new to this idea of creating a December album, December Daily® was created by Ali Edwards. In her words. "December Daily® is a mini-album project that documents the 25 days leading up to Christmas. The simple goal is to capture the spirit of December via one story per day."  As part of the design team for The Stamp Spot I hope I can do the gorgeous kits justice and that some of you find some inspiration for your own December albums.

These are the Gold (main) and the Teal (add on) DD kits from The Stamp Spot. These have been very popular and are now all sold out. The kit was put together by Michelle using Teresa Collins Designs Tinsel and Company Christmas collection, kraft, gold, white and teal cards, glitter cardstock, stickers, enamel dots, flairs (made by Michelle), sequin pockets in various sizes (also made by Michelle), twine, god ink, embossed cards, wood veneers and lots of other yummy goodies. Michelle has done an amazing job putting so many kits together.
Picture
Again this year I am using a red 6x8 faux leather Simple Stories album. I love this size for mini projects like this one - there is such a variety of page protectors to mix up throughout the album.

First the album. I don't tend to decorate the album itself as it will sit with my other albums in the bookcase. A few alpha stickers from my stash popped onto the bookplate is all I did.
Picture

The basis of my DD pages will be using the page protectors (pp) with two 3x4 pockets on top and a 4x6 pocket below. A few 4x4 Instagram pp will also be used occasionally. Also I have the pp with four 3x4 pockets for those days with extra photos.

I plan to have all my prep done before the start of December so when the 1st comes around all I have to do is take and print photos and pop them in daily (or at least every second day). I'll be using my iPhone for photos, my Epson Picturemate for printing photos at home and also may take a few Polaroid photos using my Instax camera.

Picture
All ready for December !
Now onto a few of my pages already finished.
Firstly is the cover page.

I've used a Simple Stories 6x8 pp with 2x2 pockets. This style I love. Lots of little pockets to fill.

As mentioned, I've used the Gold main kit and the Teal add on kit from The Stamp Spot. I added a couple of coloured and patterned transparencies (from my stash) to some of the pockets. Wood veneers also added (the letters of SBJ - our initials)

Picture

I placed a flip flap 3x4 pocket with sequins (from TSS Teal kit) in the middle and adhered on the spine. Added a Freckled Fawn 'hello' wood veneer which had been embossed in red Zing. A little sticker 'December' from the kit and complete.

I was just going to leave the back as it was but then thought I would try to make it look more complete. I printed out a few digital designs I have (by Ali Edwards) and popped them in.

This is the back of the cover page.

Picture
The DD kits came filled with lots of gold and teal glitter cards, cards from Teresa Collins Designs 'Tinsel and Company' collection, alphas and numbers in gold and teal, washi, flairs, wood veneers, twine, labels and even some burlap and balsa wood (you can see my use of some of the burlap on the cover page).

Next I will show just a few of the days/pages I've completed using these awesome kits from The Stamp Spot.

Day 1.

Picture

The right top pocket is a gold glitter card with a white chevron overlay (my stash) on top. Added the teal letters and a few enamel dots. The Christmas tree on the left is from Freckled fawn and is actually cork - embossed with gold Zing and has teal glitter paper behind which show through the stars.

Day 5.

Picture

With the top right card I just placed a half glitter piece on top of the card to make a little pocket. The teal card on the left has another white chevron transparency piece on top and another of Ali's digital elements 'jolly'. The 4x6 pocket is a kraft paper from the kit with another (told you I love transparencies!) from Studio Calico.

Day 12.

Picture

Day 12 is all from TSS kits. Michelle made the right side pocket - just added a tag and some wood veneers from the kit. Left card used the teal numbers and some enamel dots. I've tried to be organised and even popped white card on patterned cards where I want photos and/or journaling to go.

Picture

Day 24.

Also used kit supplies here. Just added a teal star from Heidi Swapo and the wood veneer circle date from Freckled Fawn. The gold glitter card I hand sewed a little freehand Christmas tree (totally inspired by Amy Tangerine and her love for hand sewing on her projects).

Day 25.

Picture
This is one of my favourite cards. The embossed teal card on the right Michelle made and is so gorgeous. I added the wood circle 25, some twine and a tag and some stickers. The left side is from TSS kit and was originally Kraft with white writing. I went over the white writing with my embossing pen then embossed with red Zing. Loved how it turned out.

The 4x6 card will have a photo from Christmas Day - just added a stamped cork piece (was also in the kit) and attached to card (stamp from Kellie Stamps).

Just a couple of other cards.
Picture

This is a little 3x4 washi filler card using washi, glitter tape, glitter card and teal words all from TSS kits. Think it looks great.

Picture

Day 15 Instagram date card. This is a 4x4 card using supplies from the kit. I must admit I'm not a doily person and challenged myself to use it. Think I like how it turned out !!

Well that's probably enough for now !! Will update in a few days more foundation pages.
Hope you have enjoyed looking through this post.
I'm really enjoying all this prep work and can't wait for December 1 to start getting some photos into my album.

Hi and welcome to bluepondbee. I"m a midwife; married with a teenage son and one very excitable Staffy pup. Like any true shift worker, I love to sleep and equally love a good strong coffee.
